Hey everyone. Almost exactly a year ago, I stopped updating this newsletter without any explanation. I haven’t really been posting on Twitter much, either.
Considering that the 2k of you who signed up to my Substack probably did it because you cared about my opinions or what I’m up to, I figured it could be worth sending out one last update on why I’m not doing Left Align anymore and where I’m heading from here.
A little while ago, I made a post on cohost about why having so many Twitter followers was actually pretty terrible for me. I really should have given up the programming jokes gimmick a long time ago, and the whole Musk shit was finally a good catalyst. On Left Align more broadly: it’s probably no surprise to you that I didn’t enjoy being in tech. I felt guilty about not writing Left Align anymore, because there’s already so few leftist voices in tech, but there’s only so much time someone can dedicate to being a snarky critic before they forget what it’s like to enjoy anything.
A little while ago I got laid off from my last tech job, and it was the kick I needed to start doing gamedev more seriously. I actually managed to publish one whole-ass game and now I’m working on another. It’s great and I’m actually kinda happy now, which I haven’t been in a while.
If you’re interested in keeping up with my gamedev stuff, you can subscribe to my new newsletter where I post devlogs and updates, and/or follow me on Mastodon.
Thanks for reading!
Thank you Cain, best of luck! Twitter is temporary, the rest of your life awaits you. It's tempting to think of recent events as the most important things that have/will ever happen to you, but the future holds far more opportunities once you know what's out there. 🌟
Good for you, and glad you found a direction that was fulfilling and a way to cut back what wasn't.
